Sony released the PS5 Slim in late 2023. It's 30% smaller and 18-24% lighter than the original launch model, but otherwise identical in terms of performance — same custom AMD Zen 2 CPU, same RDNA 2 GPU, same 1TB SSD, same DualSense features.
If you're buying new today, you'll get the Slim. The original PS5 is no longer in production. The main decision is disc vs digital edition — if you buy physical games or want 4K Blu-ray playback, get the disc edition. If you're all-digital, save £60 with the digital edition (and you can always add the disc drive later).
The PS6 is expected around 2027-2028. If you need a console now, the PS5 is still an excellent buy — it has a huge library of great games and will be supported for years to come. Read our PS6 rumours page for the latest on Sony's next console.
